WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is an ancient and powerful yet gentle technique, for empowerment and healing, which can bring about profound personal and spiritual growth and transformation.

The word “Reiki” is made up of two Japanese words:

Rei” means Universal, and “Ki” means energy, the same energy as Chi which occurs in Tai Chi (Chinese), and Prana (as in Yoga). Reiki is the vital life force that flows through all living things, and which is channelled during:

  • a healing treatment by a Reiki practitioner, to bring about deep relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief and healing and
  • an attunement from a Reiki Master to a student, which connetcs the student directly to the source, for personal and spiritual advancement, as well as the ability to give healing to family, friends, animals and plants.

What happens during a Reiki healing?

During a healing session lasting approximately one hour, the client is treated either seated in a chair or lying down on a therapy couch, fully clothed. The practitioner gently lays hands, in the traditionally taught positions, on the patient’s body, allowing the energy to flow. It is non-invasive, and there is no pressure. Each position is usually held for several minutes, although problem areas – backache for instance - may require longer. A pleasant sensation of warmth is usually felt in the area being treated. The client naturally draws the Reiki energy to where it is most needed, blocked energies are released within the body, and a state of balance occurs.
